2017 Global Energy 10K, 5K Long Beach Race Recap!

We had a great time at the Global Energy 10K/5K race last weekend in Long Beach!

We got there around 6:45 am and the line to get into the parking lot took us about 20 minutes just to get into the lot but once we were in, parking was plentiful and we made our way across the street to the race expo & starting line. Thankfully, I had already picked up our bibs the day before. Tip for next year…get here earlier as they suggested!

My crew was made up of my 2 girls (Kyra, 11 & Ava, 10), my niece & nephew (Chase, 12 & Cash, 14), my friend Brandy & her daughter (Paige, 10) and myself!  Team, “Be Happy <3” was geared up and ready to put 5K in the books!

There were tons of vendor booths lined up along the grass and the energy and vibe were all positive.  We lined up at the start and off we went! Here are some snippets from my SnapChat –> gononerz.

After the race, we hit up the Bimbo booth where they were giving out free bags of bagels and sandwich bread. We celebrated Chase’s amazing first race…she is 12 and ended up 3rd overall for females and 1st in her age division in the 5K with a stellar time of 22:11!! Super proud auntie moment!!!

The weather was just *perfect* and the turnout was amazing!  Great views of the Queen Mary & Shoreline Village.  I spotted a seal swimming around right around this area!

Great swag…we got all this and more! Dri-fit T-shirt, finisher’s medal, armband cell phone holder, coolie towel, bag plus a hat or visor at the event!

It was fun getting a chance to meet up with other Ambassadors like Tam! Love her positive energy and infectious smile! 😁

Lots of families were there…little kids, big kids, old & young!  It was so great to see so many kids getting involved…makes me happy. 🐝😊.

Thanks for a great event, very organized, family friendly & great swag especially for the price! My only suggestion would be to have race photographers there to capture the moment but thankfully I have my iPhone for that! Looking forward to attending again next year, hopefully as an Ambassador again.

Run Seal Beach 10K

We had a blast running this race!  It was fun to see some familiar faces in the crowd.  We ran into some of the teachers from our school as well as some softball friends.  This race is right down the road from us and maybe next year we will ride our bikes!

Here we are before the race…I HAD to laugh at Ava, making faces & gestures behind Kyra’s back!  You gotta love little sisters and their antics, lol!

One last hug before the race starts!
The race started and as expected, Kyra took off ahead of us!  I stayed back with Ava who was struggling the first half of the race.  I pushed her (sometimes literally) through the beginning but once we approached the riverbed, she hit her stride and started running strong ahead of me, all the way to the finish!

Both my girls won their age division…they were the only one in them!
That says a lot for just showing up!

Race On The Base – Reverse Triathlon

21+ miles of running, biking & swimming in the books last Saturday for the Race on the Base Reverse Triathlon…all between our softball opening day parade & ceremony and coaching Ava’s team! Then dinner with the fam & dropped my little one off to a slumber party. To say I was tired was an understatement! I love this fun local race but man oh man, that cycling leg was tough with the strong headwinds and non-cycling pants! Ouchie! 😖

Race on the Base – Glow Run!

1.1 glowing miles in the books last Friday night with #mygirlies to kick off The Race on the Base events! We loved the fun vibe of the Glow Run, live music & food trucks too. I enjoyed a #vegan sandwich called “The Greener” that had dairy-free Chao cheese that was really awesome! Definitely the BEST vegan cheese I have tried so far…yummm!

Surf City Half Marathon!

The best part of my @runsurfcity Half Marathon experience last Sunday was being able to share it with my girls.
I’ve been so excited to be an Surf City Ambassador, sharing my passion for running and love of this race to anyone and everyone who will listen (sorry, not sorry)! I’m super excited to announce that I will be teaming up with my oldest daughter KYRA (@celerygirl pictured on the right) and we are BOTH Surf City Ambassadors for 2018! She will be joining me in running the Half Marathon at the ripe old age of 12-years-old!!!
We have a lot of training ahead of us to get her prepared and I’m thrilled to be by her side for this journey together. She’s a super athlete with such a strong determination to do whatever she sets her mind to. Tell her she can’t, and she’ll prove you wrong! If you’d like to join us at the Surf City Marathon or Half Marathon, use one of our coupon codes to save an additional 10% off your registration fees @ http://www.runsurfcity.com – SCMLUCULESCU2018 or SCMKYRA2018. The longer you wait to register, the higher the price goes, so lock in the lowest rate possible and register now with our coupon code to save even more! Please share!

Some people take all the excuses away…Adam Gorlitsky is one of those people. We had the honor of meeting him and his dad today at the Surf City Marathon expo. He will be finishing the last 5 miles of the course on Sunday and you can bet that we will be cheering him on. Seeing him made me think of my dad, whose ability to walk was also taken away from him in time. I remember seeing my dad struggle with each step that he took…it was heartbreaking to witness. Losing my dad was such a difficult experience and running was my way of coping with his death. I ran in his memory and with his desire to walk and live in mind. This Sunday, when I’m feeling tired and not running my best, I’m going to dig deep and think of Adam on the course because he took all my excuses away today. Heroes vs. Villans 5K Super Run!

3.16 miles in the books this morning & it was super fun at the 5K Super Run! Lots of great costumes and energy for sure. Both #mygirlies finished ahead of me and Kyra left us both in the dust! Ava was cheering the other runners on, giving high fives and encouragement as they passed. Here’s my first attempt at making a little iMovie video on my iPhone…enjoy!
